Handing over the apron strings

deli menu with Therese Bowen.

About two years ago, Therese Bowen picked up the book Not Just a Pretty Face, the Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry by Stacy Malkan. That small move sparked Therese—a long-time lotions, creams and potions addict—to pursue her passion for personal-care products.

“After I read the book, I took a look at all of the ingredients in products I was using, and before I knew it, a new passion had developed,” explains Therese, who has been Freshlife’s whole foods specialist for more than a decade. “I thought that if I had that ‘aha’ moment, a lot of our customers were probably having it too. I think many of them are looking for the same guidance in choosing the right personal-care products they are in supplements.”

After a lot of careful consideration, Therese decided it was time to hand over the apron strings of Freshlife’s Grab‘n Go deli and bring her passion for purity to Freshlife’s personal-care inventory.

The Freshlife deli is now in the capable hands of Erin Cromley—but around here we shorten her middle name and call her “Lizzie” to lessen the confusion of having two Erins on staff.

“I saw in Lizzie a real passion for whole foods coupled with a creative flair,” Therese says.

Lizzie—a recent graduate of Bloomsburg University and a long-time Freshlife shopper—is delighted to have become an even bigger part of the Freshlife family.

“Working for Freshlife has been a wonderful change for me,” Lizzie explains. “It’s a great experience to work with a group of people who are always smiling and where new ideas and innovation are welcome.”

Lizzie said she also enjoys interacting with the customers, and likes to hear feedback about customers’ deli experiences. If you would like to offer comments or recipe suggestions, please email her at lizzie@freshlife.com.
